Equality Michigan hosted an Equality Action Day May 24. Nearly 80 activists form all over the state gathered for training, lobbying and to voice support for MI Sen. Rebekah Warren's (D-Ann Arbor) bill to amend Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act of 1976. The proposed amendment would include protections for the state's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents.
"Equality Action Day was the first in what will be a series of advocacy events that Equality Michigan will be developing throughout the year. As many in our community know, Michigan lags behind the nation in terms of the protections that it offers to gay and transgender residents," said Roland Leggett, Equality Michigan's field director.
