Thanks to a new initiative by the Michigan Department of Community health to offer free hepatitis A vaccines to people at high risk for contracting the disease, and existing funding for hepatitis B vaccines, the Allegan County Health Department will be offering free hepatitis A and B vaccines to men who have sex with men during the month of March.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 10 percent of Hepatitis A infections occur in men who have sex with men. The highest rate of Hepatitis B infection occurs in 20-49 year olds.
Immunization clinics will take place at The Douglas United Church of Christ at 56 Wall Street in Douglas from 10 a.m. to noon on March 20, and at the Douglas Dunes Resort, 333 Blue Star Highway in Douglas from 9-11 p.m. March 24.
For more information call Chance Chadwick at the Allegan County Health department at 269-686-4520.
