LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm has announced the appointment of Chris Swope, executive director of Michigan Equality and an Ingham County Commissioner, to the Michigan Judges Retirement Board.
Swope has been appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 31, 2007.
According to Swope, the board oversees the retirement system for judges in the state of Michigan, dealing with issues including judges’ pensions.
Swope will bring the experience he garnered through his eight years of researching the health care and retirement system for the Michigan House of Representatives to his new position.
“I’m really excited. I’m looking forward to it,” Swope said. “It’s a great honor – I’m glad the Governor has the confidence in me to let me take this role. It shows that she’s willing to place diverse people in government positions.”
The appointment will stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within sixty days.
