FERNDALE – On Saturday, March 19, Affirmations Lesbian and Gay Community Center will host its sixth annual Big Bash at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, Michigan. The European-styled hotel will play backdrop to the evening’s theme, “Mystery at the Royal Park,” which is being billed as the “grandest murder mystery dinner Detroit has ever seen.” Event-goers who purchase Detective-level passes will be ordered to appear at an exclusive preliminary hearing in the Conservatory with the Chief Inspector prior to the event. Others will be witness to a cast of suspicious characters as they try to deduce the guilty party.
“We’ve got a lot of surprises hidden up our sleeve this year,” said event Co-chair and Affirmations Board Member David Light.
Affirmations’ annual Big Bash sold out weeks in advance last year and won the 2004 award for best fundraising event for the LGBT community in Michigan.
Affirmations recently came into the spotlight as it went public with its building and endowment campaign to construct a new 18,000 square foot lesbian and gay community center in downtown Ferndale.
“When we’re trying to raise an additional $5.3 million to build a new lesbian and gay community center, it’s especially critical that our Big Bash raises enough to pay for the on-going programs and services we offer,” said Executive Director Leslie Ann Thompson. “I think the fact that we put the ‘fun’ in fundraising, helps.”
Big Bash 2005: Mystery at the Royal Park. will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, Michigan. General admission is $135. Detective badges are $500 and include two passes to the event and two passes to the preliminary investigation in the Conservatory. Evening includes hors d’oeuvres, open bar, dinner, live auction, silent art auction, raffle, music and dancing. Reservations are available by calling Affirmations at 248-398-7105 or online at http://www.GoAffirmations.org.
