DETROIT – Strongarm Productions has returned to producing a weekly set, this time at the Palladium in Detroit. The group garnered national attention – and even a mention in Vibe magazine – for their Saturday night sets at Club One X. A fire in 2002 caused that successful run to come to an end. Stongarm promoted parties at Backstreet on Friday nights for about six months in 2003 but that set never seemed to catch the same spark as their earlier efforts.
Since leaving Backstreet, Strongarm has been promoting occasional parties, especially during holiday weekends, at the Tangent Gallery. But the Tangent Gallery is not an actual nightclub and the powers at Strongarm felt it was time the group returned to one.
“We felt like it was time for Detroit to get a club again on Saturday nights, which we’ve been lacking for quite some time,” said Strongarm’s Anthony Winn. “What we’re going to do will be very similar to what we’ve done at the Tangent and at One X. The Tangent has always been good, but now we’re able to move beyond that.”
The Palladium offers a full kitchen and two VIP rooms. It also boasts a dressing room and will allow the group to actually bring in live acts.
“At the Tangent, we had to create a club out of something that in all actuality was not one versus the Palladium, which is a club already, with the video monitors and the VIP rooms,” said Winn. “We’re ready to move things up a notch beyond a typical Saturday night at the club with a deejay. We want to give people in Detroit something that thus far has not been given to them in this market.”
These days, Strongarm is also setting its sights outside this market as well. They’re taking their annual autumn Aphrodisiac weekend on the road with a cruise to the Bahamas. Cabins are on sale now for the cruise, which will be Nov. 4-7.
“We wanted to do something different,” said Winn. “We want to take Detroit out of the norm. It’s the beginning of winter and we wanted to do something that was a little unusual for us. So far, we’ve gotten a tremendous response. People are paying their deposits and they’re booking and it’s going to be a great trip.”
From all indications, it’s also going to be great every Saturday night at the Palladium.
“We have some things we want to do, some projects on the horizon,” said Winn. “We want to become a little more upscale, to give the people something on a higher level.”
