GRAND RAPIDS – Christian performers who have completed the upBeat! training for LGBT musical artists will perform at Reconciliation Metropolitan Community Church on July 9.
The musicians will perform favorite hymns as well as original pieces written by the artists themselves and religious music by other contemporary songwriters.
According to the Reconciliation MCC press release about the event, “The music you will experience ranges form the traditional sing-it-out-loud praises to Jesus, to the quiet and introspective pieces that will work in your heart to strengthen your relationship with the Lord.”
upBeat! is the only training program currently available specifically for musical artists who wish to minister to the LGBT community. The program was created by Marsha Stevens, a Christian performer who opened for ministers including Billy Graham before coming out in 1980. Stevens is also the founder of BALM – Born Again Lesbian Ministries in Costa Mesa, California.
Reconciliation MCC is located at 3864 Benjamin NE in Grand Rapids. The upBeat! concert will begin at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge; a free will offering will be collected.
