What in the World is a Schtender?
The Jewish Gay Network of Michigan is offering an answer to this question.
The Schtender may look like a podium, but it’s a lot more. Join the JGN as Rabbi Judah Isaac, Director of the Agency for Jewish Education, explains how the Schtender contains artistic ceremonial objects for rituals that are used throughout the year. Each piece fits into the Schtender like an intricate puzzle and is carved out of beautiful wood. This educational presentation will explain the assorted objects that are utilized for each occasion and enhance appreciation for this incredible work of art.
The lecture is Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005 at 7 p.m. at Shalom Street at the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Jewish Community Center, Eugene and Marcia Applebaum Campus located at 6600 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield. The program is free of charge. Time to socialize will be available at the conclusion of the program. Reservations are recommended. Contact JGN at info@jgnmi.org or Beth Greenapple at 248-642-8366.
