DETROIT – On Sunday, Sept. 11, Full Truth Ministry will celebrate sixteen years of service to the LGBT community of Detroit. In the best tradition of the African-American Christian church, Full Truth will be celebrating with multiple events beginning with a special service at the church on Sept. 8, holding a revival in Palmer Park on Sept. 9 and 10, a celebratory brunch on Sept. 10, a special service on Sept. 11 – and a post-anniversary midnight cruise on Sept. 24.
“It’s just overwhelming. It’s the biggest thing that I’ve done in the last four years,” said Full Truth pastor Bishop Darlene Franklin.
The festivities will begin with a service at the church, at 4458 Joy Road, at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 8.
Palmer Park will be the scene of the revival, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 and at 5 p.m. on Sept. 10. Bishop Franklin will speak at Friday’s revival, and the church will host Pastor Leslie Jones from Truth and Destiny in Cincinnati on Saturday.
“We’re reaching out beyond the four walls of our church, the four walls of the Detroit gay community to the mainstream community to make a statement – that it’s time for us to just stand up and take a position for ourselves,” Franklin said of the revival. “It’s time for us to be very vocal, very visible in our community, as well as in our faith community.”
Also on Sept. 10, Full Truth will hold a prayer brunch at Carl’s Chop House, where Tuan N’Gai, author of “Will I Go To Heaven? The Black Gay Spiritual Dilemma” and the Founder of Biazo Ministries and Co-Founder of Operation: REBIRTH, will speak. The prayer brunch will take place from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.; tickets are available for $20.
“I’m really excited but Tuan N’Gai coming,” said Franklin. “He has a radical message, especially to the faith community.” N’Gai will also speak at the Sept. 11 church service, which will take place at 11:30 a.m. In addition to N’Gai, One Voice Choir will join the Full Truth choir that Sunday.
Finally, the church will cap the month’s events with a fundraiser on Sept. 24 with a post-anniversary cruise aboard the Detroit Princess from 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. Tickets for the event are $50 and include entertainment, food and dancing.
Full Truth Ministry is located at 4458 Joy Road in Detroit. For more information or to order tickets call the church at 313-896-0233.
