Common Ground Sanctuary Art in the Park, Sept. 17-18

BIRMINGHAM – Nearly 200 artists from around the country will showcase original work in the areas of ceramics, jewelry, paintings, sculpture, photography, glass and more in Shain Park for Common Ground Sanctuary's 31st Art in the Park event, one of Birmingham's prestigious art events. Other attractions include, live musical entertainment, delicious food, children's activities and a silent auction benefiting Common Ground Sanctuary.
Art in the Park is the principal fundraiser for Common Ground Sanctuary, an Oakland County-based nonprofit crisis intervention agency. Proceeds fund the agency's community programs including, a 24-hour crisis line (800-231-1127), shelters for youths in crisis, family counseling, support and education groups and outreach to homeless and runaway youth.
Helping people in need for more than 30 years, Common Ground Sanctuary's mission is to provide services to youths, adults and families in crisis. The agency's 24-hour crisis hotline, youth and family services, emergency psychiatric services and other programs throughout Oakland County are a lifeline for runaway and homeless youths, families in crisis, victims of crime, people with mental illness and others in critical situations. Common Ground Sanctuary serves more than 35,000 individuals per year and is supported in part by local grants and contracts, the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority and United Way for Southeastern Michigan. The agency received an Honorable Mention in the 2004 Crain's Detroit Business' Best-Managed Nonprofit contest.
Common Ground Sanctuary's 31st Art in the Park, one of Birmingham's prestigious art events, will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Shain Park. Admission is free.
