LGBT business owners gather to skill build and schmooze

FERNDALE – Beginning Oct. 5, Metro Detroit LGBT business owners and wannabes will have an opportunity to skill build and schmooze at a series of monthly workshops to be held at Affirmations Lesbian and Gay Community Center in Ferndale.
The first workshop, "Starting a New Business – from Gay to Z" will be held on Oct. 5, from 7-9 p.m. and feature a panel of business owners that include Alan Semonian, CPA; Robert Tighe, Attorney at Law; and Veronica Lujic and Nicole Rafaill, owners of State of the Art, a new framing shop in Ferndale. There is no cost to attend, although donations are welcome.
The workshop series is one of several new programs being hosted by Affirmations to help bring the LGBT community together in a positive way. Subsequent workshops will be held on the first Wednesday of each month, same time, same place, and will cover topics like web design, marketing and more. Workshop presenters will be volunteer business owners from the LGBT community.
"The networking opportunities alone should make this series of workshops beneficial for our LGBT business owners – supporting their growth and strength, and in turn, contributing to the larger economic stability of our region," said Leslie Thompson, executive director of Affirmations. "I encourage all LGBT business owners to make use of this fantastic resource."
