FERNDALE – In a world of clutter and chaos one’s home should function as a personal oasis. That’s the philosophy and need recognized and met by Keith Priemer and Dave Sutton, co-owners of Ferndale’s newest store, Contempo Home.
“We’ve spent the time and taken the care to ensure our own homes are an expression of ourselves, and most importantly that they are a place we can truly exhale, relax, and refuel to better handle the stress of our everyday lives,” said Priemer.
Once their homes were completed, Priemer and Sutton were so pleased with the results that they wanted others to have the same kind of experience when they stepped into their own front doors. That desire prompted the birth of Contempo Home.
Contempo Home relies on the artistic talents of Priemer and the business savvy that is Sutton’s natural aptitude. “Fresh, funky, urban and chic” are some of the adjectives they use to describe both the store’s atmosphere and unique offerings.
In addition to a product line-up of home accents that aim to meet the goal of being practical, exceptional and even fodder for conversation, Contempo Home offers living art in the way of floral design.
“It’s my passion,” Priemer explains. “To me flowers are living art. And mass-produced arrangements offered by large chain florists can be lovely, but rather impersonal. I want to offer my clientele unique and individual designs that really express their sentiments and the personality and taste of the recipients. To me, this is a very natural tie-in to our home decor product lines.”
At Contempo Home, contemporary decor ideas, products, and floral designs can be found for every room in the home, from kitchen to bath to living room. And, important to Priemer and Sutton is affordability. Sutton explains, “Everyone likes to have an upscale look, but most people just can’t afford the upscale prices. It was our goal when sourcing product for our store, that what we offered would look expensive, but be surprisingly affordable.”
“Ferndale was an obvious choice for us with regard to the location of Contempo Home,” they explain. “its slogan of ‘Good Neighbors’ says so much about the community. We both live in the area and chose to because succeeds in combining such unique traits such as a friendly atmosphere, small town beauty, and a vibrant lifestyle. It has everything needed for comfortable living. For Contempo Home, it’s centrally located in Metro Detroit, offers many specialty stores and shops that attract the clientele we’re looking to serve, and Ferndale’s Downtown Development Authority, through its planning actions, helps to ensure that the shopping district remains responsive to the needs of Ferndale’s residents and businesses.”
