Middle Eastern American LGBT hosts Arabian Nights party

DETROIT – The LGBT Association of Middle Eastern Americans is hosting its 9th Arabian Nights party at the Malebox Saturday, March 25. The evening will feature Arabic dance music, Arabic female illusionist performances, and a special guest DJ.
The Human Rights Campaign is a sponsor of the event. "We are proud to include the Human Rights Campaign in our festivities for the evening," said Chris Ramazzotti, co-founder of AL-GAMEA. "In the past we have included groups like the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project and Helem (a gay rights organization from Lebanon). We want Middle Eastern GLBTs to know that they are not alone."
The event, which has a new night and location, is part of AL-GAMEA's continuing momentum in metro-Detroit. "We'll be announcing the launch of our new website which we hope will be a gateway for GLBT Arabs around the world to connect with the growing movement in metro-Detroit," said Bashar Makhay, a co-founder of AL-GAMEA and website designer. The website, which is still under construction, will provide LGBT Arabs a place to network with others in metro Detroit in a safe space and provide links to other LGBT groups locally and nationally.
