Support HAVEN's 'Art of Healing'

PONTIAC – Amidst cocktails and a strolling dinner, this year's HAVEN Promenade of Hope fundraising event, themed The Art of Healing, will showcase artwork from abuse survivors and local community members.
"It's an event that focuses on reminding the entire community that domestic violence and sexual assault are frightening crimes that occur regardless of economic, racial, religious, educational, or gender orientation differences," said Meredith Newman, community relations specialist for HAVEN. "It's an event of hope to celebrate survivors."
In Michigan, someone is killed every three days because of domestic violence. One of five Michigan women currently in a relationship reported experiencing some type of violence from their partners, according to HAVEN.
For 30 years, HAVEN, a non-profit organization, has worked toward eliminating domestic violence and sexual assault by building violence-free communities.
In addition to mistress of ceremonies, WXYZ Channel 7 news anchor Diana Lewis, HAVEN has also invited an honorary committee including Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Sen. Michael Bishop, Sen. Debbie Stabenow and several other community members. Newman expects at least one-third of them to appear.
The Art of Healing will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 18 at LaSalle Bank Headquaters in Troy. Tickets are $200. For more information call 248-334-1284 (X346) or visit http://www.haven-oakland.org.
