DETROIT – The date of Triangle Foundation's summer camp for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and allied youth in grades 8-12 has changed to Aug. 13-18. The camp, titled Camping.OUT, will provide a safe place for LGBT youth to participate in the usual camp activities and have an opportunity to learn how to become community leaders.
While the camp's primary focus will be the types of fun activities often associated with a youth summer camp, campers will also have the opportunity to participate in group discussions, workshops and activities designed to improve their skills as community leaders.
"This camp is an investment in our community's future by nurturing a sense of activism and civic consciousness," said Jeffrey Montgomery, executive director of the Triangle Foundation. "People are coming out at younger ages and it's time to provide the youngest in our community with a summer experience that is safe and also empowers them."
Information on registering for Camping.OUT or applying to work at Camping.OUT can be found at http://www.tri.org or by calling 313-537-3323, ext. 108. Scholarships are available for any campers who are unable to pay the full $475 registration fee. Donations can be made to Triangle Foundation at 19641 W. 7 Mile Rd., Detroit, MI 48219.
