Letter: Polyamory

Thank you, Sean, for your insight. As a bisexual polyamory and sexual freedom activist, I have been greatly disappointed at how leaders of the same sex marriage movement have distanced themselves from polyamorists, though we are equally vilified by our mutual opposition. Our existence is an inconvenience because we belie their assertion that there is no slippery slope as described by conservative Hoover Institute member Stanley Kurtz. Kurtz claims that once same-sex marriage is legal, there is no legal basis for denying marriage rights to those who wish to marry in groups. I am cofounder of the Institute for 21st Century Relationships, which advocates for the polyamory, swing and BDSM communities. Repeated attempts to engage LGBT community leaders in discussion and collaboration regarding mutual concerns and challenges have gone unanswered. One can only assume that LBGT leadership views other sexual minorities as liabilities rather than potential allies.
