Cowboy Junkies, Dave Eggers and Stephen Malkmus to headline 'Revenge of the Bookeaters' fundraiser

ANN ARBOR – Music or the written word? On Sunday, Oct. 29, 826michigan, an Ann Arbor-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students aged 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, will let the audience decide as they host "Revenge of the Bookeaters."
An event to raise funds for 826michigan, "Revenge of the Bookeaters" will feature literary giants such as Dave Eggers ("A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," "How We Are Hungry," "You Shall Know Our Velocity," "What is the What" and editor of McSweeney's), Davy Rothbart (creator of Found magazine), Julie Orringer and Ryan Harty (authors of "How to Breathe Underwater" and "Bring Me Your Saddest Arizona" respectively), as well as the Ann Arbor Youth Poetry Slam Team and 826michigan students.
Hosted by Martin Bandyke of Ann Arbor's 107.1FM, the show will also include top alternative country legends Cowboy Junkies, as well as Stephen Malkmus, the former frontman for the band Pavement, and Dan John Miller, actor and frontman of Detroit's Blanche.
"All of us at 826michigan are so excited about this event," says Amanda Uhle, Executive Director. "It's more than an incredible evening of words and music. Writers and performers are stepping forward to support our work in the community to help young people of all backgrounds to build their writing skills."
Found Magazine creator Davy Rothbart praises the organization's work. "826michigan is an amazing resource for kids who want to learn and have fun at the same time. It's inspiring to see a sense of play injected into the educational process; any visitor will be dazzled by just how engaged these students are. What's happening at 826michigan is exciting, unique, and extremely important."
