PFLAG Downriver celebrates decade of service

ALLEN PARK – Although comedy was the theme, parent and families members were serious about their support for their LGBT family members at the PFLAG Downriver Tenth Anniversary Dinner Oct. 29. Auxillary Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, who has a gay brother, received a special award, and in his acceptance Gumbleton said he was concerned about the Catholic Bishops' recent proposal that codifies discrimination against LGBT individuals and couples. "I intend to object and to offer amendments, but it is discouraging to see my church go down this road," said Gumbleton about the expected acceptance of the proposal by the U.S Conference of Bishops at their meeting next month.
Mike Neubecker was the warm up comedy act for the headliner, comedienne Leslie Thompson. Thompson is also the executive director of Affirmations LGBT community center in Ferndale.
