I find it disconcerting that Affirmations could not find a better choice for their development director than someone whose recent past included serious allegations of embezzlement and compromising their position of trust to special interest groups. This is NOT the sort of person you want making decisions about the disposition of thousands of donated dollars.
Michael Coleman's tenure with WDET may have marginally increased listener numbers by switching to a news-focused format, but he obviously alienated a significant portion of that listener base who donated funds to the station who preferred the locally-focused music format and who donated accordingly. In other words, his fund raising magic failed at WDET. With WDET permanently removed from many automobile radio station preset buttons, he has now moved onto Affirmations.
If he has only been "out" for seven years, I find his statement that his "sexual orientation has been a recurring issue throughout my career" a bit peculiar. Has this been an issue only his past two jobs? If he was closeted, who would know? Or maybe it's related to his personally using dinner vouchers provided by Ann Arbor's Aut gay bar in exchange for on air considerations during his "career" at Michigan Public Radio.
I also find BTL's Managing Editor, Jillian A. Bogater's odd choice of words a bit peculiar also. Since when is six months into a two-year probationary period considered "currently finishing a two-year probation"?
I don't know. Maybe those persons at Affirmations involved in the selection process didn't realize that there are a lot of Enron executives looking for work too! Or how 'bout Neil Bush…he's always up for making a fast buck somewhere at someone else's expense.
