Creep of the Week: Albert Mohler

By D'Anne Wtitkowski

"Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it…"
Homosexuality in the animal kingdom is a well-documented fact. And now, thanks to experiments involving sheep, researchers in Idaho have determined that sexual orientation is "biologically determined in animals, and probably humans" according a Feb. 2 Slate.com article.
Which led Albert Mohler to ask March 2 on his Web site: "What if you could know that your unborn baby boy is likely to be sexually attracted to other boys? Beyond that, what if hormonal treatments could change the baby's orientation to heterosexual? Would you do it?"
Yes, of course you would. It's the Christian thing to do, he says.
Mohler is careful to stress that "no 'gay gene' has been found – at least not in terms of incontrovertible and accepted science" (because we all know how much right-wingers love "incontrovertible and accepted science"). However, he writes, "finding a biological causation for homosexuality may also lead to the discovery of a 'cure' for the same phenomenon."
And we're not talking Ted Haggard's "three-week special" cure.

"Homosexual activists have claimed that sexual orientation cannot be changed," Mohler writes. "What if a hormone patch during pregnancy will do the job?"
Then slap one on for God, he says.
"If a biological basis is found, and if a prenatal test is then developed, and if a successful treatment to reverse the sexual orientation to heterosexual is ever developed, we would support its use as we should unapologetically support the use of any appropriate means to avoid sexual temptation and the inevitable effects of sin," he writes.
Darwinism? Secular propaganda. Global warming? Malarkey. Abortion? Immoral. Cloning? Depraved. Stem-cell research? Reprehensible. Birth control? Wicked. Slapping a hormone patch on a pregnant woman's belly to de-gayify the unborn? God's science.
For years the anti-gay right has been arguing that homosexuality isn't innate. Now that evidence is increasingly pointing to a biological basis, they're backpedaling. "Christians must be very careful not to claim that science can never prove a biological basis for sexual orientation," he warns. "We can and must insist that no scientific finding can change the basic sinfulness of all homosexual behavior."
But on the current sin hierarchy, abortion is worse than being gay, says Mohler.
"For the sake of clarity," he writes, "we must insist at all times that all persons — whether identified as heterosexual, homosexual, lesbian, transsexual, transgendered, bisexual, or whatever — are equally made in the image of God." Even if that image makes God, you know, puke.
He then goes on to say that, "we will gladly contend for the right to life of all persons, born and unborn, whatever their sexual orientation."
Of course, the right-wingers will fight for the right for your gay ass to be born, but once you're out of the womb, you're on your own. Mohler will let you live, but he'll fight against your civil rights every step of your life.
