Of all the performances to emerge from Ireland in the past decade, nothing can compare to the energy, the sensuality and the spectacle of “Riverdance.” Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan, “Riverdance” has played over 9,000 performances, been seen live by more than 19,350,000 people in over 276 venues throughout 32 countries across 4 continents. They have traveled over 500,000 miles (or to the moon and back!), played to a worldwide television audience of over 1.75 billion; sold over 2.5 million copies of the Grammy Award-winning CD (certified Platinum in the US) and over 9 million videos making it one of the best-selling entertainment videos in the world!
“Riverdance” had its world premiere at the Point Theatre, Dublin, in February 1995, where it opened to unanimous critical acclaim. Innovative and exciting in its unique blend of dance, music and song, the production draws on Irish traditions and the combined talents of the performers to propel Irish dancing and music to the present day and capture the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures. “Riverdance,” which boasts an international company of 70 performers all performing to the magic of Bill Whelan’s music, now returns to Detroit!
Performance times for “Riverdance” at the Fox Theatre, located at 2211 Woodward Avenue in Detroit, are as follows: Friday, March 16 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, March 18 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
