Area youth ask: WWJD if he was born in Detroit?

DETROIT – What would happen if Jesus was born in America's inner city today? What if that was Southwest Detroit? What would his life be like? What would Mary and Joseph be like? Would they be seeking shelter in a YMCA or Soup Kitchen to deliver their son? How would people treat them as they are on their journey through downtown Detroit?
"Jesus in the Hood," another Matrix original play, will answer these questions and more March 23-April 1 at Odd Fellows Hall (7752 West Vernor Highway, Detroit). Showtimes are Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 4 & 8 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m.
In 1996, St. Anne's Youth Group, several suburban churches and Matrix Theatre Company raised funds to create, write, produce and perform "Jesus in the Hood." The play was described as "hip, funny, contemporary, yet profoundly respectful" – The Gospel according to Luke as translated by Metro Detroit's youth. It portrays the message of finding Christ in everyone from the most famous to the most forgotten, even gang kids.
Matrix Theatre Company pulls "Jesus in the Hood" out of the vaults to resurrect the message of St. Luke with great humor, beauty and power. This amazing work reminds us that the Word of God can be found anywhere and everywhere. It is the Gospel message depicted in a way that gives new hope for the youth of modern America.
Tickets are $15. Group sales and discounts are available.
