Macomb Community College awarded Whitney Fund Grant

CLINTON TOWNSHIP – The Whitney Fund has awarded a $20,000 grant to Macomb Community College to support cultural partnerships and programming at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts and the Macomb Cultural Center, located adjacent to each other on the Clinton Township campus of the college.
The grant facilitates the partnerships that Macomb fosters through both the centers and helps bring directly to the Macomb County community new opportunities to experience the region's rich cultural assets, while at the same time amplifying overall awareness and interest in these cultural organizations. Macomb maintains ongoing strategic partnerships with a number of regional organizations, including Cranbrook Educational Community, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, New Detroit Science Center, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and the College for Creative Studies.
Launched in fall 2006, the Macomb Cultural Center is dedicated to providing multidimensional experiences to explore the influences and experiences that shape our heritage. Through May 19, the cultural center is presenting A Legacy of Service and Courage: The World War II Generation, with a series of exhibits, performances, activities, films and presentations from subject experts, authors and those who lived it. Since the program's opening on February 17, more than 3,000 people have participated in the experiences offered.
Opened in 1982, the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts provides quality professional performances and arts education for 200,000 persons annually. The synergy of its highly regarded offerings and quality theatrical spaces coupled with the Macomb Cultural Center facility and programming are taking the depth and breath of cultural experiences available in Macomb County to a new level.
Macomb Community College is one of the nation's leading community colleges, nationally ranking in the top two percent in number of associate degrees awarded and as the largest grantor of associate degrees in Michigan. The college's comprehensive educational programming includes pre-collegiate experiences, university transfer and career preparation programs, bachelor degree completion and graduate degree programs, workforce training, professional education and certification, and continuing education and enrichment opportunities.
