Conservative traditional values congressman getting a divorce

Capitol Correspondent

BRIGHTON – U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Brighton) has filed for divorce from his wife of 17 years. The Congressman filed the paperwork on Monday in Livingston county where he works according to the Livingston County Press.
Neither the Congressman nor his wife, Diane, would comment. However they issued a joint statement.
"After working on our marriage for years, including marriage counseling, we have decided to separate. We do so with mutual respect and a commitment to friendship in the best interests of our children. We ask for respect of our family's privacy during this difficult time. We will have no further comment on this matter."
Rogers is considered a rising star in Washington Republican politics, and has towed the party line on everything from tax cuts to support for the war in Iraq to touting the importance of traditional marriage between one man and one woman. He is a strong conservative leader, and ran on traditional family values platform in the last election.
