The Fifth Annual Orchard Lake Fine Art Show will bring 120 of the highest quality juried artists from around the country to sell their art works on the beautiful campus of Orchard Lake St. Mary's Schools in Orchard Lake from Aug. 3 to 5.
The event will occur on the corner of Indian Trail and Commerce Roads, offering a beautiful park setting with trees for shade, a view of the lake and an overall enhanced ambiance setting for the art event. In 2006, the Orchard Lake Fine Art Show received eight awards voted by members of Michigan Festivals and Events.
Many of the nation's best artists exhibit; and for some, this will be their only show in Michigan. In order to attract the best artists, $2,500 in Artist Prizes is awarded. The goal of the show is to create an atmosphere that enhances the artwork and presents a relaxing environment for art lovers.
A specially-made garden, along with a water and landscape feature and fresh flowers on every table, will help build that aura. The culinary menu will offer food from great local restaurants including Mezza Mediterranean Grille, Mountain Jack's, Big Boy and Rossini's Authentic Italian Cuisine to further create a fabulous environment.
The event launches at 6 p.m. Aug. 3 with the Casino Windsor Artist Preview Party, sponsored by The Observer and Eccentric Newspapers. The preview gala will offer patrons' first choice to purchase the artists' works. Complimentary beverages, including beer, wine, and savories will be served, with catering by Whole Foods Market, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Mezza Mediterranean Grille.
Maggie's Chocolate Fountain Bar will provide a chocolate fantasy with free flowing milk chocolate in a delicious fountain. Select a strawberry, marshmallow, a pretzel and dip it in the flow. Additional food is available for purchase. Hubbell Street Jazz Group will delight patrons with their award-winning vocal stylings. Last year over 2,000 people attended the preview. Tickets are $25 and available for purchase online at www.ticketweb.com.
On Aug. 4 and 5, the event is free to the public; $5 parking helps support Orchard Lake St. Mary's Schools, which receives a substantial donation. In addition to the food provided by local, quality restaurants, there is free live entertainment (Sheila Landis Trio, Brazil and Beyond, more), live artist demonstrations, children's art activities and the New Youth Art Competition, sponsored by Target.
"Art programs in most schools are being cut; the new Target Youth Art Competition offers kids in grades kindergarten through eight (or ages 5-13) to create and enter their art work – all of which will be publicly displayed throughout the entire show," said show director Patty Narozny in a press release. "By publicly displaying the art work, it will encourage kids to use more of their imagination and creativity."
The art work entered will then be placed in a tent labeled Youth Art Competition. All entries must be original and unaided by other people. $250 in cash prizes will be awarded by three professional artists who will be the judges for the Youth Art Competition. The winners will be photographed and posted on the Orchard Lake Fine Art Show Web site, www.hotworks.org.
The Orchard Lake Fine Art Show's new Youth Art Competition has been made possible by Target Stores. This sponsorship is part of the ongoing support Target provides to local communities throughout the country.
