Local leather club ICON Detroit will hold the 2007 ICON Fetish Carnival, the club's 14th annual weekend event on Oct. 19-21. The event, which raises funds for three local LGBT charities, will include two nights of fetish parties with demos at the Detroit Eagle, a series of cocktail parties at host hotel the Corktown Inn, catered Saturday community dinner at the Works, and more.
This year's carnival will also feature the first Mr. Fetish Detroit contest, which will begin during dinner at the Works on Oct. 20th and continue at the Detroit Eagle that evening.
This year marks a change in name and focus for the weekend event, which was previously the ICON Leather Carnival. "It was important for us to make this an event that the entire leather and fetish community can enjoy," said ICON President Craig Anderson in a statement. "We know that there are a number of people who may not consider themselves part of the traditional leather community, but definitely have their own kinks. This weekend will be all about learning about and celebrating all of those different fetishes. The carnival will have something for everyone, from seasoned leather folk to people who are just curious about the community."
"We are especially excited about the Mr. Fetish Detroit Contest," Anderson said. "It will be a chance for contestants to share their individual fetishes with the weekend participants in a fun, sexy format." The winner of the Fetish contest will go on to represent the Detroit area in the 2008 Mr. Michigan Leather Contest in Douglas, Mich., next September.
Participants have the option of registering for the full weekend event, registering for only the dinner and contest on Oct. 20 or may simply attend the Friday and Saturday night parties at the Eagle without pre-registering. Those who opt for the full weekend package will also be invited to a private VIP tea dance at Club Gold Coast on Oct. 21. Icon events and bar nights all benefit the official ICON charities: The Triangle Foundation, The Ruth Ellis Center and AIDS Partnership Michigan. Since the club's founding in 1993, ICON Detroit has raised over $40,000 for charity.
