Letter: Biblical idiocy

Corvino's article ("The sins of sodom", Issue 1614, 4/3) isn't news to those of us who have spent our lives refuting what I call "Bibilical Idiocy." There is something else I'd like to add, however.
The Hebrew verb "yada" (to know) is ambiguous.-* It appears 943 times in the Hebrew Scriptures and in only about a dozen of those cases does it refer to sexual activity.-* What's also interesting about the early Church's use of it sexually is that it was the custom of the time for people to introduce outsiders to the townspeople as a security measure.-* They didn't do so in this case, so that is more likely the cause of the angry mob.
