GRAND RAPIDS
Kindel Furniture Co. is holding a celebration and fundraiser event for ArtWorks, a summer internshop for students who create art projects for West Michigan communities, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 2.
Held at the 107-year-old Kindel Furniture factory, Art Around Town attendees will be able to view furniture artisans plying their craft and talk with student artists about how they created more than 100 works of art that will be sold at a silent auction that night. The atmosphere will be festive with food by the Gilmore Collection, drinks and music.
Guests will also have a chance to purchase selected Kindel furniture at special pricing for this event, with 10 percent of sales donated to UICA.
The piece de resistance will be a live auction of a Dorothy Draper-inspired revolving bar made of solid cherry by Grand Rapids craftspersons and donated to the event by Kindel. This is the fifth fundraiser, put on annually by the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.
The Kindel plant is located at 100 Garden St. Admission prices are $35 for UICA members, $40 for non-members and $45 at the door. To RSVP, call 616-454-7000 or send an e-mail to [email protected]
