Calif. legislators to undertake repeal of Prop. 8

SACRAMENTO –
When California's state legislators return in 2009 Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) plan to introduce measures that state Prop. 8 is an "improper revision of the California State Constitution."
Prop. 8 was a ballot initiative in the 2008 state election which sought to redefine the term "marriage" as a union between "one man and one woman," terminating the right of marriage to same-sex couples throughout the state.
It passed 52 percent to 48 percent.
The measure is sponsored by Equality California and the National Center for Lesbian Rights and will be introduced on the second day of the 2009-2010 legislative session.
