LAHR and Suits team up to celebrate Lansing's 150th

{LANSING – }
On May 16, Lansing is hosting a citywide parade in a gala sesquicentennial celebration. The Lansing Association for Human Rights and the LGBT business networking group Suits and the City are organizing all LGBT and allied organizations to march in this important public event. The two organizers are encouraging all social groups, businesses, open and affirming churches, softball teams, support groups and others to join them in marching as part of the city's 150th birthday celebration to show the LGBT community's part in Lansing's history.
Representatives from state-wide organizations and entities from the greater Lansing area are also welcome to participate.
At this time, LAHR and Suits representatives are expecting that at least 30 groups will participate.
The first organization to agree to participate was the American Civil Liberties Union of Michgigan. "The Lansing Area Branch of the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan is proud to march with the Lansing Association for Human Rights and other organizations in the city of Lansing's 150th birthday parade in May, said ACLU Board member Dennis Hall. "The ACLU has been protecting all citizens' civil rights for a long time, and in particular has been working with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people for over 70 years. The Lansing Branch Board of Directors is pleased to have been invited to participate in this historic event."
Each component group will be carrying a uniformly sized and printed sign provided by the organizers, identifying its name and number of years of existence. LAHR and Suits and the City will furnish signs to each of the LGBT and allied groups marching, all of which will be behind one LGBT-related banner in the Lansing Parade. Both groups will also be responsible for registration fees associated with participation in the march.
Interested people or organizations must first register with LAHR in order to be part of the event's program.
Deadline for online registration is May 1. To register, or for more information, visit http://www.lahronline.org.
