Last week, the Ferndale Community Foundation announced the beginning of its 2009 solicitation for grant proposals. The invitation is open to any area non-profit organization.

Past recipients of grant money from the foundation include FernCare, an organization opening a clinic for the uninsured; Ferndale Youth Assistance, which provides after school and transitional programs for students moving into high school; and Ferndale High School which used funding to purchase a biotech lab for its science classes.

"The Community Foundation truly believes that Ferndale is a great place to live, work and raise a family. We are committed to making it even better by providing support where we can to some really worthy organizations." stated Dan Martin, chairman of the Ferndale Community Foundation. "The projects that the Ferndale Community Foundation supports are focused on initiatives at the local level. This is a great opportunity for area organizations to receive additional support to further their missions and add to the quality of life in Ferndale."
"This is one of my favorite charities because the projects are visible and have impact right in our city," said Ferndale Mayor Craig Covey, who is also a board member of the foundation.
