Love cars? Drink coffee? There's a group for that.
CandCDetroit.com is the latest social media site on the Internet gathering car owners and enthusiasts in the metro Detroit area. Members and enthusiasts can connect through online forums on a variety of subjects to establish meet-ups that are fondly referred to around the globe as Cars and Coffee.
"Car owners and enthusiasts have been meeting up in the mornings for years and referring to it as Cars and Coffee," explained Brent Ferguson, Cars and Coffee founder.
"The term Cars and Coffee has become as commonplace as Kleenex or Xerox for those who like to get together and show off their cars once or more a month. I have given them a neat and organized web portal for sharing details about their gatherings such as dates and locations, photographs and more".
Cars and Coffee Detroit, launched in late August, meets every Saturday morning from 6-10 a.m. in the parking garage of the MotorCity Casino and Hotel.
The Michigan group is the 11th such one, joining Cars and Coffee events in Columbus, Ohio; Charlotte, N.C.; Dallas, Texas; Tallahassee, Fla; Las Vegas, Nev.; Irvine, Calif.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Omaha, Neb. and Honolulu, Hawaii.
Established in May 2007, Ferguson initially created the Cars and Coffee online community and forum so that attendees of a popular southern California gathering could share photos, conversation and take the weekend experience with them wherever and whenever they wanted to. If someone missed a show, they could always see the cars that showed up by looking at the user posted photos on the site.
"Our site aims to unite car enthusiasts around the world who hold these remarkable events that allow anyone and everyone to show up and be a part of the car scene," said Ferguson. "The events are typically represented by local residents within 20 miles of the event site and do not charge parking or entry fees. They are simply a wonderful way for enthusiasts to network, make new friends and have a great time with cars."
The Web site has also established groups in Belgium and the Netherlands with surrounding countries Germany, Austria, France and the UK coming on board soon. "When we launched the Las Vegas group in June of 2008, I never would have told you we would be across the USA and on the other side of the world in Europe," Ferguson added. "Who knows what to expect in one year or even five years. We are not here to police or give permission. We're simply a mutual online community for groups out there who happen to share the Cars and Coffee name and hope that more groups will join and want to be represented on our site."
MotorCity Casino and hotel is located at Grand River Avenue and M-10 in Detroit.
