Detroit Latin@s, southeastern Michigan’s only community-based LGBTQ organization for and by the Latino community, is hosting an early Cinco de Mayo celebration at Affirmations with comedian Mimi Gonzalez at 7:30 p.m. May 1.
Mimi Gonzalez was once told by her mother, “You’re such a beautiful girl, but then you open your mouth and spoil it all.” The Detroit native has been on the road since 1998, cracking up audiences all over the world with her comedic talents.
The show will be held at Affirmations LGBT community center, located at 290 W. Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.
The event will benefit Detroit Latin@s, which began as a project of the Michigan AIDS Coalition in 2008 and garnered support from the Arcus Foundation shortly after. The purpose of the group is to build a visible and influential body of LGBT Latinos through outreach, leadership development training, advocacy, shared resources and social events.
Tickets for Mimi Gonzalez are $15 for general admission at $25 for VIP admission, which includes priority seating. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call 248-298-7105 or visit
