Equality Action Tour stops in Detroit to discuss discrimination against gay and transgender Michiganders

DETROIT-
A coalition of advocacy organizations is launching an Equality Action Tour, a series of town hall events to promote equality for all in Michigan. The sixth event in the series will take place at the Park Bar in Detroit on Tuesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to
the public. It will focus on the social, economic, and legal impact of discrimination faced by gay and transgender people and their families.
Current Michigan law does not prohibit discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation, leaving many at risk of being fired, evicted or denied services because they are gay or transgender.
The sponsoring coalition, Unity Michigan, was formed in 2007 to advocate for equality. Unity Michigan is specifically working to promote policies that protect gay and transgender citizens and their families from discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations.
Panelists include representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, Affirmations and Equality Michigan. Light food and refreshments will be provided, including beer and wine.
The Park Bar is located at 2040 Park Ave.
