Affirmations and Equality Michigan to Co-Host Town Hall

By |2012-10-11T09:00:00-04:00October 11th, 2012|Michigan, News|

Affirmations and Equality Michigan will co-host a town hall and voter engagement event Oct. 13 at noon at Affirmations in Ferndale. Speakers from the Michigan Election Coalition and Chris Michalakis , president of the Metro Detroit AFL-CIO, will talk about what’s at stake in the upcoming election and will help train participants in canvassing techniques. Then the group will use their new skills by going out door-to-door from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“We didn’t know what to anticipate when starting out,” says Megh Hollowell, Program Coordinator at Affirmations. “But the response from the community has been overwhelming and telling. The consensus among voters is clear: We are not an interest group. We are citizens, entitled to all of the same rights and protections under the law, and it’s time for change.”
