The third annual Equality Night at the Lugnuts will take place on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. at Cooley Law School Stadium in downtown Lansing, the same day as Michigan Pride gathers in the state capitol. The event “brings together LGBT groups and people in the Lansing area to show pride through visibility at a non-gay venue before a predominantly heterosexual audience, similar to the guerilla queer bar concept, where groups of gay people take over a straight bar for a night,” said the organizers in a press release.
Any group that purchases 20 tickets for a Lugnuts game is featured on the scoreboard and announced during the game. The Equality Band of Michigan will give a brief performance on the field during the 7th inning stretch.
Equality Night also celebrates 2013 Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote on an equal basis with men.
Come out with your friends and family members and show off your rainbow colors and Pride shirts at the stadium. Cap off your Pride celebration with a colorful fireworks show immediately after the game.
Tickets are $10 and can be ordered now from the Equality Band’s website: http://equalitybandofmichigan.com. By purchasing your tickets at the band website, you will be assured of seating near the band. The Lugnuts request that tickets be ordered by July 31 so they can set aside sufficient seating for Equality Night attendees.
