The Know Us Project

The Universalist Unitarian Church of East Liberty is hosting the Know Us Project, an educational training workshop for LGBT people and allies Nov. 24 from 1 - 4 p.m. The free workshop will be held at the church which is located at 2231 Jefferson Rd., Clarklake (1/2 mile west of US 127). Advance registration is requested by emailing [email protected] or calling 810-444-9206.
Research indicates that as Americans become more familiar with the experiences of LGBT people and their supporters, they are more likely to support equality. Research also points out that allies of LGBT people - heterosexual friends, family members and colleagues - are significant change agents as they discuss their personal reasons for supporting equality with others. The Know Us Project emphasizes conversation skills in a supportive environment. Its focus is to teach effective ways to discuss personal stories of LGBT stigma and discrimination with others, and to express personal, moral and faith values, in order to help change public opinion one conversation at a time.
