LGBT Activists Attacked In Toronto

By BTL Staff

Pink News reports that LGBT rights activists were attacked and told to leave a recent Toronto event held by Rob Ford. The activists had been protesting the controversial Toronto mayor's alleged homophobia.

Ford had voted against a proposal that would provide help for homeless LGBT teens.

The event, which featured a half-dozen anti-Ford LGBT rights protestors among a thousand supporters of the mayor, took place on July 25 in Thomson Memorial Park. The LGBT demonstrators were allegedly told to "go home" and that the event was "Ford Nation," though a rep for Ford has responded that anyone is welcome to the event. Ford's supporters also ripped, threw and stamped on placards the protestors were holding. Video and photos have also surfaced showing one man being assaulted with a hand around his neck.

Police are investigating. As a result of the recent occurrence, the event has lost its alcohol license.
