Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes is fighting a court ruling that would allow for marriage equality in Utah.

QSaltLake reported on Aug. 13 that Facebook made a $10,000 donation to Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes' reelection campaign last May. Reyes is fighting a court ruling that would allow for marriage equality in Utah.
When asked about the donation, Facebook replied with this statement:
"Facebook has a strong record on LGBT issues and that will not change, but we make decisions about which candidates to support based on the entire portfolio of issues important to our business, not just one. A contribution to a candidate does not mean that we agree with every policy or position that candidate takes. We made this donation for the same reason we've donated to Attorneys General on the opposite side of this issue – because they are committed to fostering innovation and an open Internet."
When QSaltLake's Assistant Editor Bob Henline requested comment, a spokesperson for the social media website mentioned several pro-equality candidates Facebook has supported and pointed to Reyes' work with "Internet safety and patent reform."
Henline launched a Change.org petition demanding that Facebook "publicly decry this bigotry and make an equal or greater contribution to the campaign of Charles Stormont who is also seeking the office of Utah Attorney General. Stormont has publicly proclaimed his support of non-discrimination protections for Utah's LGBT population and has vowed to end these ridiculous and discriminatory lawsuits."
