ARKANSAS – The City Council of Fayetteville, Arkansas will consider a new non-discrimination ordinance protecting the rights of LGBT against discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity socioeconomic background, martial status or veteran status.
However, Michelle Duggar, the matriarch of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting,” recently released mother-to-be, claims that the bill will allow men to use women’s and girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms and showers and goes onto claim that all transgender women are predators.
“Males with past child predator convictions that claim they are females,” Duggar said, will enter these private female areas.
She goes on to discredit the gender identity of the transgender community in Arkansas.
“We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child,” Duggar said in a call released on soundcloud. “Women and other little girls deserve to use the restroom and locker room in peace and safety,” Duggar said.
Baptist Church pastor Jeremy Flanagan also spoke out against the ordinance claiming that it would allow women to go topless at public swimming areas and he “doesn’t want to explain that to my nine-year-old.”
Alerman Matthew Petty, the nondiscrimination bill’s author, told the Fayetteville Flyer that opponents are “spreading this misinformation because they are skilled political strategists and they believe it is an effective proxy for their bigotry.”
City Attorney Kit Williams also responded saying that transgender people “deserve to have the ability to use the bathroom in peace and safety,” and that the practice was just “fear mongering.”
However despite Duggar’s attempts, the bill was passed Aug. 20, after a ten hour discussion and public debate.
