National Republicans Pull Nearly $1 Million In Advertising For Land

Embattled Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, Terri Lynn Land, is going to have nearly a million less in advertising flooding Michigan airwaves in the last two weeks of the general election. The National Republican Senatorial Committee confirmed Tuesday that it had cancelled $850,000 in media buys to support Land's candidacy, The Detroit News reports.

The move comes as polling shows Gary Peters, the Democratic candidate for Senate, consolidating his lead in the state.

Land has largely run a campaign of stealth, relying on others to speak for her. Her public appearances have been largely a mishmash of word salad with little substance presented. The campaign has kept Land from the media and public appearances since a June appearance at the Mackinaw Policy Conference. At that event, during a press gaggle with reporters, Land threw up her hands and announced she couldn't do it and walked away. She appeared on a statewide radio call in program with Michigan Public Radio on Friday which has been widely panned.

She has also been under fire for what Democrats say are campaign irregularities. Charges leveled against her include hiding her financial fortune, potentially providing herself with an improper $3 million loan and allegations first uncovered by Between The Lines that a Land family controlled charity may be violating IRS rules and regulations by distributing "Land for U.S. Senate" signs from charity locations.
