Michigan For Marriage Meets In Ferndale

BY BTL STAFF

FERNDALE – This upcoming Tuesday, Michigan For Marriage will gather at Affirmations in downtown Ferndale to discuss the current state of the Michigan marriage equality trial and what is next for equality in the state.
Headed by Sommer Foster, the director of political advocacy at Equality Michigan, and Gina Calcagno, coalition manager for Michigan for Marriage, the forum will be available for metro Detroiters to ask any questions they have. The presenters will provide updates on the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals' decision.
"While we're waiting for the court to issue its decision, we are seeing the real harm that families are experiencing here in Michigan," Calcagno said. "These forums let us talk with different communities about marriage equality, why it's important, and why all Michiganders in loving and committed relationships deserve the right to marry."
The court could release their opinions on marriage equality shortly, and that decision will shape the future for same-sex marriage in the state.
This is an opportunity to hear from legal experts in the field and community leaders who have been a part of the process from the beginning.
The gathering will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Affirmations Community Center located at 290 W. Nine Mile Road in Ferndale. The meeting is sponsored by Equality Michigan and Affirmations.
