Fine Art Show Celebrates Fourth Year In Ferndale

The 16th Annual Ridge Fine Art & Handmade Wares Show will bring buyable art to Ferndale for one day only this month. The show, marking its 16th year running and fourth year residing in "Fashionable Ferndale," brings one-of-a-kind handmade art to the city. Featuring over 25 Michigan artists, unique pieces of jewelry, ceramics, tile, wearables, sculpture, 2D collage, candles, soap, fiber, glass, handbags, wood, leather and journals are available to see and purchase, with price points ranging from $3-$200.
"This isn't your ordinary art fair, but one that focuses on quality, not quantity, when it comes to vendors," says Siouxsan Miller, the sole founder and leader of the event over the last 16 years. "The longstanding vision is to attract a community of artists to share their talent and (also to attract) dedicated customers who really appreciate and support art."
The show has come a long way over the years. "As an artist myself, I saw the need back then, way before the 'Indie Craft Movement,'" Miller says of the show's creation, "and here it is 16 years later."
Customers at the fine art show are encouraged to interact, particularly by voting for their favorite artist for the "People's Choice" award. The winning artist receives a cash prize and invitation to show again the next year, while the people who vote in turn get a chance to win one of many donated, handmade prizes.
The combination of returning and new artists each year helps keep the show both fresh and familiar. By combining veterans and "newbies" to the art scene, the event maintains a unique balance, as each year new artists are tapped to allow shoppers to discover something new.
The Ridge Fine Art & Handmade Wares Show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2441 Pinecrest, Ferndale. Admission is $2. Parking and refreshments are free. For more information, call event organizer Miller at 248-398-8107 or visit http://www.siouxsan.com/ridgeshow.html.
