FERNDALE – Affirmations will host "Fall Fling: A Casual Chic Affair" on Oct. 10. Showcasing Affirmations' work in the local community, the event will be a creative, elegant time to toast to the recent successes and advancements in the LGBT rights movement.
Sponsored in part by MGM Grand Detroit, Fall Fling will serve as an opportunity for the public to experience the vibrant community center located in the heart of Ferndale on Nine Mile. The program for the event will include words from the president of the board of directors, Frank Aiello; Affirmations' Executive Director Darrious Hilmon; an Affirmations center volunteer; and a participant of Affirmations' newly launched youth program, "Cross the Lines Youth Workforce Development."
"I want the public to be able to feel the energy as they walk through the 17,000 square-foot Allan Gilmour and Eric Jirgens Community Center," Hilmon said. "The contagious laughter of the young people, the sincere words of encouragement from the seniors and the constant buzzing of activity remind me how much this center truly matters to people."
The event will feature an art exhibition opening by a renowned local artist, a strolling dinner, open bar, hors d'oeuvres, desserts and a variety of community activities that will give guests an opportunity to experience a real evening in the center. Tickets are $75 each and include dinner, open bar, admission to the dessert lounge and other program activities. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.goaffirmations.org.
