Lisa Brown Files for Re-election in Oakland County

PONTIAC – Oakland County Clerk and Register of Deeds Lisa Brown announced she is running for re-election in 2016 to continue her work in increasing government efficiency and protecting citizens from fraud. Brown has also been a strong champion for women's and LGBT rights, and is committed to getting young people involved in the voting process.
"I'm excited to file for re-election today because I want to continue serving the people of Oakland County," said Brown. "I am proud of the strides my office has made to improve customer service, fight for the voting and civil rights of all citizens and protect homeowners from fraud. I want to continue to serve and fight for Oakland County families."
Brown, a Democrat who defeated an incumbent Republican County Clerk in 2012, has been a strong champion for women's rights in Oakland County and across Michigan, fighting back against Republican leaders who tried to silence her for standing up for women while in the Legislature.
Brown has transformed the Oakland County Clerk's office in key ways:
– Eliminated a nine-week backlog that she inherited at the Register of Deeds, making it easier for people to buy homes.
– Improved technology by instituting a user-friendly searchable database and notification system that alerts users about potential fraud in the Register of Deeds of Office.
– Ensured that all citizens could exercise their basic rights by keeping her office open — even on the weekend — when a court ruled that LGBT couples could marry.
– Held voter registration drives in high schools and colleges to get young people involved in the democratic process.
"I believe that it's the clerk's job to work for all citizens in Oakland County," Brown said. "I will never stop fighting to preserve people's basic rights, making sure elections are conducted fairly and efficiently, and protecting citizens and taxpayer dollars." Brown was one of only four county clerks in the state who opened their office on Saturday, March 22, 2014 so that same-sex couples could get married during a one-day window. Brown officiated over 80 marriages that day.
Lisa Brown was born and raised in Oakland County, where she lives with her husband and her sons. A graduate of Andover High School, Brown holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a law degree from the Detroit College of Law. She was elected to the Michigan House in 2008, where she served until 2012.
