The SantaLand Diaries' And 'Season's Greetings' 12/16-12/22

FERNDALE — Opening Dec. 16 at Ferndale's Ringwald Theatre and playing through Dec. 22 is the return of the comedic duo of "The SantaLand Diaries" and "Season's Greetings" from humorist David Sedaris and adapted for the stage by director Joe Mantello and featuring Joe Bailey and Joe Plambeck.
A young man (Joe Plambeck) arrives in New York with dreams of being a writer for "One Life to Live" and instead lands a part-time job as a Macy's Christmas elf named Crumpet. From humiliating interview to elf indoctrination to scrapes with miscast Santas and obnoxious customers, the author's real-life experiences, detailed in "The SantaLand Diaries," are subversive and funny.
In "Season's Greetings," a determinedly sunny Mrs. Jocelyn Dunbar (Joe Bailey) takes pen to paper recounting the joys and unexpected surprises of the past year, including the arrival of her husband's illegitimate, gold-digging, Vietnamese daughter on the doorstep. Twisted, tragic and hilarious in its lurid revelations, Season's Greetings is an antidote to chipper holiday newsletters.
Tickets are $10-$20 and available online at theringwald.com. You may also purchase tickets at the box office, which opens 45 minutes before performances. Cash and Visa/Mastercard are accepted at the door. The Ringwald is located at 22742 Woodward Ave., Ferndale. Call 248-545-5545 for more information.
