Legislative Democrats Push For Civil Rights Expansion

LANSING – State Reps. Jon Hoadley (D-Kalamazoo) and Sen. Rebekah Warren (D-Ann Arbor) will host a press conference May 30 at 9 a.m. at the Michigan State Capitol Building, Room 402-403 in Lansing.
At the conference, the bicameral group will call for an expansion of the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to extend legal protections to LGBT citizens by prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, and public accommodations.
Guest speakers also include Stephanie White of Equality Michigan, Ypsilanti Mayor Amanda Edmonds and Ingham County Commissioner Ryan Sebolt.
