New Housing Development Planned in Ferndale

Ferndale city council members approved last week a Brownfield plan for Robertson Brothers Homes, along with planned unit development for the company to build 72 townhouse condominiums on the site of the former Taft Digital Learning Center school on Allen north of Eight Mile Road, according to a report by the Macomb Daily.
Robertson Brothers have also already been approved to construct 28 single-family homes on the site of the former Wilson Elementary. Ferndale Schools sold both properties to the company last year for $1 million.
The Taft property covers about 4.4 acres between Allen and Gardendale streets and shares a south border with Garbutt Park. Mayor Dave Coulter said in the report that the townhouses will appeal to middle-income buyers looking for new housing in the city.
The townhouse condominiums – constructed in two phases – will be a mix of two- and three-bedroom units with garages. No sale prices are set yet, but preliminary estimates suggest the townhouses will sell from about $180,000 to the mid $200,000 range. The condos will be 1,200 square feet and 1,500 square feet with two-and-a-half bathrooms.
Demolition at the Taft site is set to get underway in the fall. Demolition has already begun on the former Wilson Elementary property.
