LANSING – The Lansing Area AIDS Network is marking its 20th year of service to mid-Michigan by hosting a month-long fundraising event called, “Night of 1000 Stars.” To launch the special event an official kickoff party is scheduled for Thursday, April 21.
The annual fundraising event, which began in 1994 as a project of the LAAN Board of Directors, has raised over $60,000 for the organization.
This year’s theme, “A Party A day in the Month of May,” was announced to coincide with LAAN’s 20th year of service to mid-Michigan. LAAN offers several levels of direct care management for people who live with HIV/AIDS and comprehensive HIV Prevention Services, including free anonymous HIV antibody testing.
Cynthia M. Dennis, a member of the LAAN board of directors, said, “The concept of ‘Night of 1000 Stars’ is simple and imaginative. Anyone in the community can host a Night of 1000 Stars Party. They set the date of their party, choose their party theme, invite their family and friends, and ask them to make a donation to LAAN. Our goal is to have at least one party a day throughout the month, with a fundraising goal of $25,000.”
The official kickoff party is scheduled for Thursday, April 21 from 5-8 p.m. in the LAAN Food Pantry, 913 W Holmes Road, Suite 115 in Lansing. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
