ACLU seeks same-sex African-American couples

DETROIT – The American Civil Liberties Union is seeking same-sex African-American couples in or near Detroit to be part of a national advertising campaign for marriage equality.
The ACLU is working with Public Interest TV (http://www.publicinterest.tv) to produce commercials that will highlight racially, economically and geographically diverse couples. Ten couples will be picked and interviewed on camera. The goal of the campaign is to give the couples a platform to tell their story of love, devotion and the harm caused by discriminatory marriage laws.
The goal of the ad campaign is to show Middle America that gay couples look, live and work just like them – and therefore deserve marriage equality.
The ACLU will hold a casting call March 7 and 8 in Detroit.

Interested couples should take the following steps:

1. Fill out the online couples survey at http://www.aclu.org/getequal/rela/survey.html.
2. Email [email protected] stating your availability to attend a 15-minute interview session on March 7 or 8 between 6-9:30 p.m. at the ACLU office in Detroit, 60 West Hancock Street, between Cass and Woodward, near Wayne State campus.
3. Email a digital jpeg photo to [email protected]. Dave Isser is the producer of these spots and is working with the ACLU. Be sure to type YOUR NAME and "COUPLES" in the Subject heading of the email.
Information will be kept confidential and only shared internally among those working on this project.
For more information or if you don't have online access, contact David Isser of Public Interest TV at 310-664-4663 or Joel Engardio of the ACLU at 415-558-9780. State in your message that you are from Detroit.
