Affirmations Health Fair April 18

FERNDALE – Affirmations Lesbian Gay Community Center is hosting the second annual Health Fair at the center in downtown Ferndale Sunday, April 18 with expanded hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Health Fair is part of the health outreach program of Project Healthy Living. Testing and disease screening is conducted at many sites throughout the greater Detroit area. Laura Kane-Witkowski, health services coordinator at Affirmations, said she is excited about bringing the health fair back to Affirmations. "Most of the other sites are at churches, high schools, and civic centers so it is pretty neat to have it here at the center."
There will be free blood screens, and many other tests including tests for hearing or glaucoma. Many health organizations will have display tables, like the Alzheimers' Association, with helpful information on services they provide.
"Last year I was a little anxious because it was the first time," said Kane-Witkowski. "But it went great. A lot of people came and it was a lot of fun. Lots of people came up and thanked me and Affirmations for making it available. Some of the people were far more likely to come to our site than, say, to a church. I felt really good about it and I'm looking forward to another success."
